In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov will share with you how to crush White against the Queen’s Gambit 1.d4 d5 2.c4. Instead of accepting the gambit with 2…dxc4 or declining (or defending) the gambit with 2…e6, you can countergambit with the Albin Countergambit by playing 2…e5, which leads to a sharp and dynamic position.
After White accepts the gambit with 3.dxe5, which is the most common reply, Black can play 3…d4 which is the whole essence of Black’s plan. It gives some space advantage, restricting the White knight from developing to c3, and works well with the idea of Bb4+, creating some serious threats along the dark squares.
You will learn the practical traps you can use in this opening variation. You will also learn how to refute the Albin Countergambit if you are playing 1.d4 as White.
