Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Snail Variation!

We have covered many animal chess openings on the channel including the Fried Fox Defense, Elephant Gambit, Bird’s Opening, Lemming Defense, Hippopotamus Defense, and Crab Opening. Today we continue by taking a look at the Snail Variation, which is a chess opening for black against d4. It actually starts out with the Old Benoni Defense, but soon takes an unexpected turn. Just like any animal chess opening, it can’t look normal! In this video we cover the chess opening theory, chess opening strategy, and chess opening principles of the Snail Variation. This is a fun chess opening that can give you some good chess games, while reaching opening lines and variations that your opponent will have never seen before. We hope you enjoy this beginner’s chess lesson on the Snail Variation!

  1. The Snail variation can lead to interesting positions with the early development of the knight to a6 and also h6 in one variation. I like the fact that you can get a Benko gambit type position without having to know all the Benko gambit theory.

  2. plz bird opening vairations πŸ˜€ I love bird opening but i have only seen a few variations. EG what if they play the "english"? what should I do? idk i just dont know many variations. I have gone to a few tournaments recently and I watch ur bird opening videos like 3 times before every one (and wehn i tilt) , but it would really help to know more about what to do πŸ˜€

  3. I'd love a lesson on penguin variation of Reti and mosquito variation of Englund, those are definitely worthy of having their theory properly explored

  4. I play it sometimes. It's not bad at all and you can play it as white

  5. I think it might be fun to look into the spike variation of the polish opening with 3. g4 against a kingside fianchetto setup

  7. Finally someone who teaches openings without being boring or annoying (like Levy).

  8. As you're talking about benonis and animals, the snake benoni could be cool to look at. Also this is a great video btw good work πŸ˜€

  9. The snail variation is essentially the Averbakh variation in the KID played in a different move order🐌🐌🐌
