There are so many great chess openings for black against 1. d4 including the Modern Defense, King’s Indian Defense, Queen’s Indian Defense, Dutch Defense, Nimzo-Indian Defense, Bogo-Indian Defense, Grunfeld Defense, Benoni Defense, Old Benoni Defense, Benko Gambit, Queen’s Gambit Declined, Slav Defense, and Semi-Slav Defense! However, one opening that many chess players don’t know about is the Rat Defense!
The Rat Defense starts with the move of 1. …d6 and is a Pirc Defense invitation. Meaning, if white plays 2. e4, we are in a Pirc Defense! And, if they don’t play 2. e4 and go with something like 2. c4… well that is what this YouTube Short is all about.
