In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov will share with you a dangerous opening weapon for White against the first moves 1.e4 e5, which is one of the most common responses of Black. It is the Scotch Gambit (from the Scotch Opening) which arises after the following opening moves: 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Bc4.

Instead of taking the pawn back with 4.Nxd4, White plays in gambit style, sacrificing the pawn, for rapid development and great attacking opportunities. You’ll enjoy this line a lot because it is solid, aggressive, and easy to learn.

Watch the video lesson as GM Igor Smirnov walks you through Black’s common responses: the tempting 4…Bb4+, protecting the pawn with 4…Bc5, and the more solid 4…Nf6 that gives a Two Knights Defense setup.

You will also learn a tricky line, playing the aggressive 4.Ng5, which can be used against beginner-level and intermediate players, especially in blitz games.

  4. This is very good I have to use it thanks man
And I love the way you effectively explain

  5. 2:59 "It's a good move that you can play against anybody, including Magnus Carlsen if you ever have to face him." As a 1400-ish, it'll probably never happen, but one can dream! Thank you for all of the help and great content!

  6. Very instructive and useful in real practical games. Thank you.

  7. Thank you so much sir … actually i have played chess for 5 years while in junior school and won several championships… now i can aim at becoming a GM at high school

  8. Ελλάδα μου Πατρίδα μου says:

The Scotch Gambit is quite dangerous even if black responds correctly. The main move after 5.e5 is of course 5…d5 (5…Ng4 and 5…Ne4 being the alternatives) 6.Bb5 Ne4 (quite interesting is the not so obvious 6…Nd7) 7.Nd4 and i think that black has to play the gambit line 7…Bc5 with good compensation for the sacrificed material. I don't like the positions after 7…Bd7 8.Bxc6 bxc6. I think they are quite complicated and white gets a good share of attack if he knows what to do. It is an underestimated opening but there are some very strong Gm's who play it like Gawain Jones from Britain. For sure it will scored heavily in amateur level.

  9. Another superb video. Full of useful info and comments. Thanks. Could you do a tutorial on the Closed Sicilian Opening some time ?

  14. Please remove the sub tiltle because i didn't see the piece on the board

  15. Well I’ve tried to bring this in in 4 games with people ranked between 1100 and 1200 and I’ve lost all 4 games. It’s rubbish to think you can use this in a real game. Absolute rubbish
