In this video, IM Alex Astaneh is sharing with you some of the main lines of the Yugoslav Attack in the Sicilian Dragon, which is not just the mainline for white against the Sicilian Dragon, but it is the toughest challenge for Sicilian Dragon players to face.

The Yugoslav Attack is characterized by the following moves:
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.Be3 Bg7 7.f3 0-0 8.Qd2 Nc6

From here, White has two major continuations: He can either play 9.Bc4 which is the variation we will mainly focus in this video, or he plays 9.0-0-0

3:42 – Variation with 9.0-0-0
7:10 – Variation with 9.Bc4

Hope you enjoy this instructive game featuring the Yugoslav Attack to showcase the general motifs and strategies that can arise out of this opening. What’s important to take away is that really for the white side against the Sicilian Dragon you want to attack and you want to be willing to sacrifice a couple of pawns if it’s necessary in order to crush through against the black King. White has to be confident of giving up that material so that his attack comes thru faster than black’s play on the queenside.

  1. Great lesson you are a wonderful instructor!

  2. Alex does a better job of explaining the reasons for each move than I generally find on YouTube. It is much better to understand the reasons than to memorize the moves, as it gives you greater flexibility in dealing with moves that you hadn't prepped for.

  3. 8:17 I prefer knight takes d4 Because after white recaptures black can play b5 in one move instead of playing a6 and then b5 Usually in these positions Black starts his attack before white which is another reason why i prefer this move

  4. This is some great in depth analysis OTB! Totally loved it!

  5. 7:44 actually there is a better line capturing the d knight
White recaptures with the queen which would allow black to to make a discovered attack and fork the queen and e bishop
White can't respond to all the threats and is going to lose a piece

  6. Very good video. I have also downloaded all your videos and even playlists also. You are 🤟🤟🤟🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩I like you very much!!! Keep it up.

  7. Wszystko fajnie, elegancko, profesjonalnie przedstawione, tylko szkoda, że chuja rozumiem!!

  8. These videos are really informative. Can you come up with white king side castle?

  9. Are there any game at high level that black win🤷‍♂️😂😂

  10. Great video! Is this from an actual correspondence game or computers v computer? Shame if people are now using computers in correspondence and writing them in as their own.

  11. What are the names of the players who played this game?

  12. Have to admit this video is so much better than most chess stuff on YouTube. The way you explain the details and deeper reasoning behind the moves it so accessible. Well done!
